SHOCK

This project is intended to provide first aid coverage at  various places in Gozo. Every year a number of people suffer from sudden cardiac arrest.  Collective data estimates that 7 million people die each year worldwide by SCA. SCA is unpredictable, it strikes without warning, killing 250 people a day in the UK. SCA kills more people than lung cancer, breast cancer and AIDs combined. SCA does not discriminate - it can happen to the young, fit and old - anyone, anywhere at any time.  Together with effective CPR, defibrillation is the only way to re-establish the heart's natural rhythm.

The use of public access automated external defibrillators (AEDs) has shown improvement in survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Lay people’s use of these devices located in public locations, is important to increase survival rates.  A person looses around 10 % chances of survival for every minutes he is not shocked by an AED

The project will seek the creation an AED stations (PAED) that will be accessible to the general public. This could be a life saver in case of sudden cardiac arrest, in which every minutes counts.

The main outputs of the project are to set up a number of AED  stations around the island of Gozo, provide training and awareness to the general public.
